IMMIGRATION
OVERVIEW
On June 28, 2002,
Canada's immigration program has been based on the Immigration and
Refugee Protection Act and Regulations.
In Canadian history,
immigration has been an integral and essential part in Canada's
cultural and economic growth. Immigration has played an important role
in the development of what Canada is today and will be in the future.
As Canada experience
labor shortages in the different sectors of our industry across the
region, due to an aging population, Canada's commitment to immigration
has never been evident.
According to the
2005 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration, "Immigration will play
a key role in building the Canada of tomorrow by addressing future labor
market and demographic needs, and supporting the country’s international
role and geopolitical presence. Looking to the future, Canada needs the
talent and dynamism that immigrants bring to this country. Immigration
is key to nation building and to our economic prosperity".
